Dear Friends:
Why is Holy Week important? Well, when we go from the Palm Sunday parade to the Easter alleluias we totally miss what happened in between. We miss exploring the key stories of the faith on the nights when they have the most power.
When we worship on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter, we hear the whole story – the triumph, the desertion, the crucifixion, and the resurrection. When we participate in the harsh realities of Jesus’ death, we better understand the joy of the disciples on that first Easter.
Hearing the stories of the Last Supper and Crucifixion on the anniversary of the very nights they happened invites us to imagine ourselves seated at the table or standing near the cross.
Hearing the stories together, as a congregation, gives us a sense of the feelings around the stories, we come to understand that the stories of Holy Week are important to all the people gathered, and we listen and claim them as our own.
There is a lot planned for Holy Week. I invite you, this Holy Week, to carve out a little time to join your church family to hear again the story of God’s love poured out for us.
Peace,
Pastor Bob
